From Steve Kane Quilts and Folk Art. Of the LOG CABIN Pattern. 72 inches by 72 inches. The rectangular fabric "logs" are placed in the ROMAN STRIPE variation of the LOG CABIN pattern which derives as its name implies from Ancient Roman Wall Decoration. Here the Anonymous Maker has placed the individual "patches" on an angle so as to create the illusion of an overall "BASKETWEAVE" effect. The dark colors of Burgundy, Blue, Gray, Brown and Green are enlivened by the use of an ochre orange fabric in several areas of the pattern. The Burgundy Triangles at the edges of the pattern stabilize and anchor the busy overall design. Whether in the cold of Winter or the Cool of Summer Air Conditioning a Comforter/Quilt is a practical and aesthetically correct necessity. The Backing as pictured is a blue, brown and olive print. The "TIES" which can be seen in the detail photo is the most basic quilting stitch that secures the three layer of the quilt together.
