From Steve Kane Quilts and Folk Art. SMALL - DOLL - CRIB - DISPLAY SIZE. Variation of the LOG CABIN Pattern.SIZE: 38 inches by 44 inches. The MUTED COLOR PALETTE of Cotton Prints of Black, Gray, Burgundy, Olive Green, Tan and Red are arranged into three log patches that alternate in either horizontal or vertical placement within a Japanese-influenced, Tan patterned, wide SELF-FRAMING BORDER. The abstract and arbitrary composition is reminiscent of Paintings of the Bauhaus and De Stijl Movements of the early Twentieth Century. Both Piet Mondrian and Theo VanDuesberg used rectangular forms to construct their images just as this Anonymous Quiltmaker did. This is a cool, sophisticated "ROMAN STRIPE" that could be framed and hung in the company of many modern masterpieces of any medium. The BACKING shown in the photograph is made up of FIVE vertical lengths of fabric printed with flora and fauna imagery that exhibits the influence of Charles Darwin in areas other than the natural sciences themselves. These are Mid-Nineteenth Century fabrics of (two panels each of) exotic flowers and in the outer edges, a black print in a meandering form that looks like some specimen under a microscope with another black print in the center panel of the Backing. This BACKING is almost as visually exciting as the main FRONT image. There are numerous possibilities for use here especially as a decorative cover for BIG TV screens. OR, Display small quilts in frames just as you would a painting. Framers and Contractors can now do remarkable work in displaying textiles, as can the average person with the help of local hardware supply. The item "ROMAN STRIPE Log Cabin Var.
