Very Early and OUTSTANDING example of a LOG CABIN QUILT. This is a BARN RISING example from the 1850s CIVIL WAR ERA. The size is 80" by 78". This quilt is in excellent condition for a quilt that is 160 years old, and is made up of wools in various shades of tan and black.
We found just a couple moth nips. The centers are shades of brown and red. The weights of these materials are mostly thin to medium wools.
There is a thin batting. The back is cotton paisley. The quilt is comprised of 1300 HAND PIECED pieces, with each piece being approx. The quilt is held front to back with stitch in the ditch HAND QUILTING (mostly visible on back). There has been a thin sleeve sew on the back, as the quilt was in a collection for many years and only used for display. We seldom see these early quilts coming on the market anymore. Outstanding handsome example for the LOG CABIN QUILT COLLECTOR! Take a look at the other exceptional clean quilts in our store. We sell only clean American made antique quilts!
