This is a genuine antique item - at least 100 years old. It is made from scraps of fabric - wool, silk, cotton, and felt. The scraps are made into oblong shapes and are sewn around a red square piece to form the quilt. It is mostly hand sewn although the have been machine sewn.There are scraps from men's and woman's clothing - you can see old shirt fabric, some wool jacket fabric and also piece of earlier 1890s Victorian silk dress fabric and printed cotton fabrics. The quilt is backed with red cotton printed paisley pattern fabric. The edges are a mixture of black cotton and black silk velvet thin pieces laid in strips to finish off the backing.
Size - will fit easily on a single bed - or could be used across the foot of a double bed. This also makes a cheerful throw. Measures 77 inches by 63 inches - (193cm x 158cm).
